Getting involved with The WICT Network: New York will help you gain valuable experience while building your professional network. We offer a wide range of opportunities for you to contribute your talents by joining committees, volunteering to help with events, or supporting our nonprofit partner organizations.

Volunteering and Giving Back

The WICT Network New York Volunteer and Giving Back Committee serves the dual purpose of partnering with external nonprofit organizations that emphasize career and leadership opportunities for women and girls, and providing internal organizational support via volunteer sourcing for various The WICT Network New York and The WICT Network National events. This committee helps to host mock interviews & elevator pitch workshops, fundraise for American Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Walk, and support nonprofits by providing networking opportunities and donations. 

Key Responsibilities:

Committee members are responsible for planning and executing at least two volunteer events a year, participating in monthly meetings (60-min), and assisting with finding nonprofits to partner with for other WICT events. Please expect to contribute 5 hours a month.

As a committee member, you’ll gain experience in the following areas: 

  • Networking & community outreach

  • Event planning

  • Budgeting / financial planning

  • Collaborating across committees

  • Time management 

Marketing and Communications

The Marketing and Communications Committee (MarComm) is integral to the success of The WICT Network: New York. This Committee provides a host of marketing communications to extend the distinct brand of one of The WICT Network’s largest chapters. MarComm supports The WICT Network: New York’s mission and each Committee through a number of marketing tactics including event promotion, email blasts, website management, social media, design and print. 

Key Responsibilities:

MarComm guides strategy for all communication to chapter members and non members. They ensure all communication is on brand in the WICT voice, representing mission, vision & objective. 

Looking for: 

  • Email / Event RSVP Manager: Responsible for creating and distributing email blasts, and managing the event RSVP platform. Anyone with HTML, Photoshop, Eventbrite.com and/or Mailchimp.com experience is a bonus!

  • Graphic Designers: Lend your creativity to e-blasts, the website, banners and more!

  • Copywriters: If you have a passion for writing and want to help us promote our events by writing copy, crafting our newsletters and more. PR or Marketing background is a plus.

  • Photographers: Help us capture the energy and excitement of our events!

  • Social Media Contributors: Weekly help with posting evergreen content, social media coverage of events, and content creation.

  • Website maintenance: Help maintain the WICTNY.org website, make updates to events pages, member spotlights, the home page, and other updates as needed.  Experience with content management systems is a plus. 


As a committee member, you’ll gain experience in the following areas: 

  • Effective Email Communications

  • Mailchimp

  • Website Management and refresh (Square Space)

  • Social Media Promotions (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)

  • Meeting Deadlines

  • Graphic design (Canva)

  • Presentation/slide creation and design

Membership

The purpose of the Membership Committee is to grow membership and retain members for The WICT Network: New York through membership drives and events.

Key Responsibilities:

The membership committee is responsible for managing chapter membership goals, developing growth strategies, and reporting on monthly goal metrics. The committee also has representation at each of the events planned by other teams to help sign-up new members and speak to the benefits. Please expect to contribute 4 hours a month. 

As a committee member, you’ll gain experience in the following areas: 

  • Forecasting and reporting membership gain/loss

  • Creating presentations that communicate benefits 

  • Networking and social outreach

  • Collaborating across committees

  • Participating as a Membership representative at various events to connect with non-members

Mentoring Circle

The Mentoring Circle is a group mentoring program for women starting out in the cable industry. Critical topics that impact leadership success and long-term development based on the The WICT Network Touchstones of Leadership are explored in an open forum of peer mentees and mentors each month. Each session is led by one or two Mentors who are a leader in the industry. 

Key Responsibilities:

The committee recruits mentors from throughout the technology, media and entertainment industry to meet with mentees and supports the application and selection process for mentees. They plan and oversee a monthly series of Mentor/Mentee group workshops from March – Sept., based on the WICT Network Touchstones.

As a committee member, you’ll gain experience in the following areas:

  • Collaborating across committees

  • Meeting deadlines

Prime Access

Prime Access is a one to one mentoring opportunity between The WICT Network members at the Director level and very senior executives in the cable telecom industry. 

Key Responsibilities:

Prime Access Committee members are responsible for selecting the program’s Mentees, recruiting and getting to know potential Mentors, determining the program year’s curriculum, and planning workshops and social events.

The committee oversees the application and selection process for mentees and actively recruits corresponding mentors. They plan and oversee a robust series of Mentor/Mentee events and workshops that run from mid-March through September. The bulk of the work for this committee is prior to the start of a program (December through February). 

As a committee member, you’ll gain experience in the following areas:

  • Program management & career development curriculum

  • Collaborating across committees

  • Meeting deadlines

Programming Committee

The Programming Committee is responsible for planning and producing The WICT Network: New York’s events. This includes networking mixers, panels, speaker series, webinars, and more. We are responsible for all the event planning details - selecting topics, sourcing speakers, securing venues, food & beverage, and all the fun details for each event. We work closely with the President, VP, Treasurer, Marketing, Membership, and Giving Back committees. 

Key Responsibilities:

Committee members are responsible for planning and executing at least one event a year, participating in monthly meetings (60-min), and assisting with planning and executing events across the year. Please expect to contribute 5 hours a month. Please note that this will increase when you are Lead an event. 

As a committee member, you’ll gain experience in the following areas: 

  • Project Management

  • Budgeting / Financial Planning

  • Negotiations

  • Customer Management

  • Collaborate across committees

  • Time management & deadline oriented 

Coaching Catalyst

In 2019, the Chapter launched a pilot program, open to chapter’s Executive Members, VP level and above, providing direct access to 10 free, executive one-on-one coaching services for those selected to the program. This competitive program is a valuable advantage for executive members and their companies.  

Key Responsibilities:

Co chairs work together to develop/refine the application and marketing elements needed to promote registration. Related components are processed through the Marcom committee and hands on management and solicitation are required to ensure a robust program response. Work with existing agency to source and facilitate coaching assignments. Read and review applications to determine best program candidates. Coordinate program graduation.

Sponsorship Committee

Sponsorship & Fundraising Committee manages the Chapter’s sponsorship efforts which provide a primary source of funding for Chapter activities and programming. 

Key Responsibilities:

Create, maintain and update Chapter current and potential sponsor list with contacts and sponsorship amounts.

  • Update / Revamp with MarCom committee for Sponsorship Decks & marketing materials where applicable. 

  • Adhere to consistent brand messaging and guidelines as outlined by WICT Network Global & the Model Chapter Business Plan.

  • Ensure timely collection of pledged sponsorship monies

  • Works closely with Chapter Treasurer to ensure proper invoicing and payment procedures are met.
